The GOLDEN GLOBE

Our project is centered on art throughout the Golden Ages. This includes Greek, Roman, Islamic, and lastly the Medieval Renaissance golden ages. Our intention is to find correlations between these times by means of technology, culture, and social advancements.  Art is a very pivotal component to a society, by researching communities present within in each of these societies, we can make a general assumption as to why these “golden ages” actually occurred.

"The Ottoman ruler Mehmed II saw himself as a Renaissance patron of the arts, and he called on the most famous artists and architects of the day to work for him... The revival of portraiture, so characteristic of Renaissance tastes, was as important to the Turkish sultans as to European rulers" (The Making of the West 409). After the fall of the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Turks came to power. Even though they were seen as barbaric from the outside world, they were actually just as cultured as any European society. As exemplified here, the sultans considered themselves patrons of the arts and were quite fond of Renaissance art.
