Painted on the interior of a wine cup, "it shows a Greek hoplite (armored infantryman) striking a Persian warrior in hand-to-hand combat with swords. The Greek has lost his principal weapon, a spear, and the Persian can no longer shoot his, the bow and arrow" (The Making of the West 77). Each is depicted very differently, showing the distinct difference between the two parties. Also, the commonality of the object that this amount of detail is put into shows that art was an everyday part of Greek life during their Golden Age.
